When Jo-Anne, 16, fell ill, doctors diagnosed her with glandular fever. But when she deteriorated rapidly she was moved into intensive care. Mum Anne, 46, watched as medics fought to save Jo, discovering she had a rare disease – hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) – which was attacking her own organs. Tragically, it was too late and Jo whispered, ‘I love you Mum,’ before she died. Now Anne is raising awareness of the cruel illness. Her awareness-raising story was published in Chat magazine today.
